Those who decided to arrive on the Friday were blessed with a warm and sunny day and an inviting sea and beach – though the pebbles seemed even more uncomfortable than was remembered; something to do with pressure=weight/ area, perhaps? The Feathers that evening was thronged with people of a certain age uttering in disbelief “OMG, it’s.....!”

The formal programme on the Saturday, amazingly, ran to schedule largely because, in typical Opsoc fashion, so many people mucked in and dusted off skills used years before. Special mention must be made of the two Ians, Cairns and Lacey, whose local knowledge and contacts proved invaluable, Graham Burton for organising the memorabilia display, Bernard Tagliavini for connecting up the projector and audio, all those who helped with the serving and supporting Cecily in the kitchen, and former stage-crew members who slotted back in to hang the projector screen as if they’d never been away from the team. Come the end of the barn dance, thankfully achieved without any need of paramedic intervention, clearing away was achieved with great efficiency; the only problem being what to do with quantities of left-over clotted cream and beer – quickly solved.     …. more
